Tower Cranes

“Choosing the right crane positioning and foundation is one of the most important stages. You have to anticipate where the equipment will cause the least disruption — not only during operation, but also during dismantling. We were aware that the so-called ‘crane hole,’ the opening left by the crane, would eventually have to be filled in. That is why optimising the layout was a priority for us.”.

The main challenge of the project

On a large construction site and with a project of this scale, ensuring efficient vertical transport was a key element. Several crews were working on site simultaneously — each responsible for a different scope of work, but all requiring access to the cranes at the same time.

The General Contractor – company Makax – knew that with such a fast pace of work and a tight schedule, downtime caused by limited access to equipment was out of the question. The project team, together with Baukrane, analysed the project’s logistical needs and developed a tower crane plan tailored to the structural layout and the dynamics of work on site.

Solution

The number of units, their reach, lifting capacity, and positioning were planned to eliminate potential bottlenecks as much as possible. Each crew could rely on dedicated equipment for material handling without having to wait for their turn, which directly translated into the pace of construction.

Six tower cranes were used on the project:

  • Terex CTT 181
  • Terex CTT 141
  • 2 szt. Krupinski Cranes KR90
  • Liebherr 90EC
  • Liebherr 71EC

One of the six cranes was positioned inside the building, which ensured full operational coverage even during the later structural stages.

Collaboration with Baukrane

Makax has been working with Baukrane for several years. Each subsequent joint project reaffirms their trust in Baukrane, the company’s ability to select the right solutions, and its quick response to the needs of the construction site.

This is particularly evident in the WaterHall project. Beyond the equipment itself, Baukrane’s readiness to act in situations that often become bottlenecks was of great importance.

“Of course, we are aware that there is a shortage of crane operators. But Baukrane is able to respond to the problem quickly and continue working with us without major issues, which is very important to us.”
— Piotr Kostrzewa, Site Manager, Makax

This type of support — both technical and organisational — is crucial for the General Contractor. Baukrane not only supplies equipment but also actively participates in solving technical and logistical problems. This makes the company a genuine on-site partner, not just another supplier quoting from a price list.
